RUFUS GIWA POLY OWO WAS LIFELESS BEFORE GOV AIYEDATIWA’S INTERVENTION- RECTOR

… Ready for Convocation of 25,000 graduates since 2013

Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), once drowning in crisis, is set for a grand revival this Saturday as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s intervention sparks hope.

The institution, once described as “lifeless and down” before Governor Aiyedatiwa’s intervention, will host its 12th–23rd combined convocation for over 25,000 graduates—an acsdemic ceremony that had not taken place since 2013.

Acting Rector, Mr. Olorunwa Adegun, revealed at a press briefing that RUGIPO faced 14 months of unpaid salaries, crippling industrial actions, and a disrupted academic calendar under previous administrations.

“The institution lay almost lifeless, workers were owed 14 months’ pay with no hope in sight,” Adegun said, crediting Governor Aiyedatiwa for turning the tide.

Key interventions by Governor Aiyedatiwa include:

* Funding for accreditation of 68 programmes, securing 100% success from NBTE.

* Revival of OSPO Ventures: Water factory, bakery, guest house, and staff schools are now operational.

* Plans to make RUGIPO a “Food Basket” via massive crop cultivation and a CNG Vehicle Conversion Centre.

* Administrative steps underway to upgrade RUGIPO to a university, aligning with the governor’s vision.

Adegun praised Aiyedatiwa’s swift action. “Without him, we’d not be here….He restored dignity, revived academic culture, and shored up our image,” he said.

According to Adegun, Saturday’s convocation will mark a new chapter as RUGIPO rises from neglect. “Today, the institution is back on its feet,” Adegun added, attributing the turnaround to the governor’s “unwavering support.”From despair to hope, RUGIPO’s renaissance signals Ondo’s renewed focus on education under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
