Barrister (Dr) Olumuyiwa Adu has revealed that exceptional talents discovered during the Adu Unity Football Competition will soon be introduced to the global stage, following the success of the previous two editions.
Speaking while receiving the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the third edition, led by Chairman Raymond Abdulsalam, at his Alagbaka residence in Akure, Adu affirmed that the football competition has come to stay.
“There’s no reason to stop. The foundation of this competition has been strongly laid on solid ground, which is why it’s sustainable,” he stated. “Some talented players were discovered during the first two editions. People may not know their names now, but soon, the world will.”
Barrister Adu, who sponsored the first two editions in 2023 and 2024, emphasized that initiatives like this complement government efforts in youth engagement and empowerment.
“It’s a known fact that government cannot do it alone. The football competition is one of the ways I support youth development, especially for those who are talented and deserve global recognition,” he said.
The APC Chieftain further noted that his contributions are not limited to football, adding, “There is potential in every human being, not just in youths. We are exploring all areas, not only sports.”
In his remarks, LOC Chairman, Mr Raymond Abdulsalam commended Adu’s consistency and passion, assuring that the 2025 edition will witness significant improvements in cash prizes, individual awards, officiating, and overall organization.
The third edition of the Adu Unity Football Competition is scheduled to kick off next month in Akure, with the participation of 18 teams from across the state.
